Module-6: Understanding Community and Social Impacts of Technology

  • Rural Social Challenges: This section will delve deeper into critical social issues in rural areas, including social exclusion, challenges in migrant integration (often due to lack of local knowledge and engagement), and limited access to essential social infrastructure like healthcare and education.
  • Strengthening Social Capital: Participants will examine the vital role of social networks, cooperation, and social innovation in building resilient rural communities. The module will discuss how community-led initiatives can emerge to address service failures and reconfigure local governance for broader societal benefit.
  • The Human Element in Future Work: This module will highlight the increasing importance of interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, empathy, and emotional intelligence in future jobs. These skills are crucial for working creatively at the human-computer interface and navigating diverse, multi-generational workplaces.
  • Indigenous Perspectives on Land and Community: Explore profoundly different approaches to land and social relations, emphasizing kinship, mutual dependence, and the view of land as a living, regenerative force. The module will introduce the Two-Eyed Seeing approach, a Mi’kmaw concept that combines Indigenous and Western worldviews, to integrate spiritual, cultural, and ecological dimensions into land decisions and promote Indigenous resurgence. Emphasis will be placed on community ownership and control over knowledge and resources.
